Ayurvedic Treatment in Kerala :: Tracing Our Travel Tracks
TRACING OUR TRAVEL TRACKS
"Experience, travel- these are as education in themselves." - Euripides
Travel is always an experience. There is novelty, uniqueness and an element of surprise in any travel we undertake. Experiencing something new is by itself a discovery, and experiential learning and the travel trails take us to newer sights, places and even experiences.
Therefore, we at Ayuryogashram have devised a couple travel trails for the benefit of our guests’ and let them choose which trail they would like to travel to, experience and discover.
The travel trails that we have coined are of course, seasonal, an occasion, an event, a spiritual quest and determined by changing seasons. Therefore, our travel trails maybe determined by factors therein and may not be offered every time or anytime.
Pooram or Temple Festivals
Ayuryogashram is about 15 kms from Thrissur which is famously known as, ‘the land of Poorams’. Thrissur, is also referred to as the cradle of Kerala Culture. Pooram is an annual festival, celebrated in temples most often after the harvest season in summer. In fact, the Pooram season in Kerala starts in January and is on till the onset of Monsoons. Thrissur is the land of Poorams. Thrissur Pooram, is biggest of all Poorams. It is celebrated during April-May every year. Aryankavu Pooram near Palakkad and Machattu Thiruvanikavu Vela near Wadakkanchery, Nenmara Vallanghy Vela, Arattupuzha Pooram, Machadu Mamangam, Kodungallur Bharani are some of the other famous temple festivals in and around Thrissur.
As part of a Pooram, there is a musical ensemble known as melamwith instruments unique to Kerala. Additionally, there is 'Panchavadyam' a performance with five different instruments, a Thayambaka, which is a solo performance, a procession of over 50 caparisoned elephants and the final culmination in fireworks.
We can make arrangements for guests of Ayuryogashram to attend any Pooram happening nearby and experience it and be a part of something that is definitely a rare, colorful ensemble of music, people and instruments.
Soaking up the Kerala Monsoons
Kerala wears a different persona during the Monsoon months. It is like a fresh, new blanket of verdant green being wrapped around and the complementing rains and the leafy abundance have a mesmerizing effect. Therefore, if guests’ choose to undergo the specialized ‘karkadaka chikilsa’, therapy at Ayuryogashram offered only during the Monsoon months, there is a dual experience to savor, the therapy and the monsoons in Kerala.
Therefore, to complete the effect, a visit to nearby locations to witness monsoon in its ultimate form is something that can only be experienced and would definitely translate to once-in-a-lifetime moments. Experiences include, walking barefoot on grassy lands, a walk through paddy fields, visiting nearby water bodies to experience swirling, gushing water that envelope the terrains, the stamp of green everywhere, the smell of rains that wafts through the air and of course, being there, in the moment, a total awakening of all our senses that renders a calming effect. And as the quote goes, “To travel is to awaken." And the moments spent are a one-shot.
A day in the Ashram- Narayanashrama Tapovanam
‘Ashram’ in Sanskrit refers to a place of learning or education. From olden times, the revered teachers in Ashrams have imparted value-based education to students that acted as a guiding force all through their life.
One such Ashram is the “Narayanashrama Tapovanam” founded in 1963 by the revered Poojya Swamiji, Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha. The Ashram is situated on the scenic slopes of the Eastern hills of Pandavagiri in Venginissery, Thrissur. The Ashram is surrounded by verdant foliage and surrounded by trees and paddy fields and the sereneness of the nature is in harmony with the tranquillity of the Ashram premises.
The Ashram draws visitors from far and wide who come seeking blessings, guidance, direction and the ever elusive peace. It is here, that Swami Bhoomananda has been a guiding force for people in their spiritual journey. With his rational elucidations of the Science of Self-knowledge and its usage in the art of cultivating, fortifying and uplifting the human mind, he is helping people. His teachings have benefited and transformed many individuals.
As a spiritual guide, scholar and advocate, Poojya Swamiji has travelled far and wide and successfully helped teach, relate and apply the ancient Indian Scriptures like the Bhagavadgeeta, Srimad Bhāgavatam and the Upaniśads in everyday life. He has also espoused abolition of certain prejudiced, offensive and irrational practices that were followed over time. He has strongly advocated restitution, protection and endorsement of our values, ecological protection and increased literary awareness.
His unique teachings include, guiding our mind and behavior with our beliefs, self-improvement, meditative introspection and his unique Inner Resources Management. Poojya Swamiji believes that there is a limitless potential and energy within us and around us. Therefore, when we realise our own inner resources, we understand, develop, identify and harness our vast potential to further our growth and explore all spheres of possibilities, realizations and achievements and this is Inner Resources Management.
