AYURVEDA PANCHAKARMA

Ayurveda has primarily centered on anti-aging and programs to rejuvenate the body so as to help prevent sicknesses and thus maintain good health. Primarily these programs are advised once a year for people between the ages of 40 to 60 for a set number of days. The program includes Panchakarma and other individual programs that are determined based on the person’s physical condition and body type.

The Ayurvedic Rejuvenator treatment practiced today is known as Panchakarma. The ancient Ayurvedic texts written by Charaka, recommends putting into practice the most important rejuvenation treatment, Panchakarma.

There are 3 steps to this:

  • Purvakarma - The first step in the process that helps eliminate contaminants from the stomach and tissues and thus make possible the toxins moving to the alimentary canal.
  • Pradhanakarma - The main part of the treatment planned as per each person’s requirements.
  • Paschatkarma - After the treatment has been undertaken, a strict diet regimen and other prescribed dos and don’ts should be followed.

The word,‘Pancha’ actually refers to ‘five’ and ‘karma’ refers to ‘action’.

This five-stage cleansing therapy is aimed at correcting the vata, pitta and kapha dosha disparities and thus helps maintain balance.

Vamana – A vomit inducing procedure that is good to combat increased kapha in the body and helps alleviate cold, cough, acne and other related sicknesses.

Virechana – To help eliminate toxins in the body, purgatory methods are induced so as to stimulate the bowel system and expel the pitta dosha.

Nasya – This is a nasal passage cleansing technique. This is done with the aid or medicated oils or Ayurvedic powders. In fact, the nostrils are considered the gateway to the brain, the nasal passage and the lungs. Thus this therapy is aimed at reducing the kapha dosha and helps treat sinuses, migraines, and cold by clearing blocked passages and congestion.

VASTI – This is more a colon cleansing procedure wherein an enema is induced to remove toxins and reduce vata dosha. Any type of digestive disorders, constipation, kidney stones, colic, obesity, neurological problems, and back pain are helped treat with this process.

Nirooha Vasti – An enema that uses a combination of herbal pastes powders and oils and is aimed at having a positive effect on the nervous system and combat vata dosha imbalances.

Rakthamokshana – In this a unique and effective, leech therapy, the leech are used to suck impure blood from a region and thus improve blood circulation and treat problems. This is used to treat skin or hair problems.

To engage in a wholesome Panchakarma treatment and therapy is so positive and beneficial that its results can only be witnessed and experienced as it unveils its evidence with the passages of time.
