In Yoga, the symbol of hands folded is very important. This basically conveys that both the mind and body come together not just at a singular level but at a more collective, all-encompassing level. And with this, the actual intention of practicing Yoga is achieved that is to perfectly synchronize the body, mind with the surroundings and environment.
The elements of nature which here would be the earth, nature, water, energy, and fire, are represented via the leaves, the water and the different colors.
And why was June 21st chosen as the International Day of Yoga?
It is a day that is special and its importance and impact is evident in many ways. It is the day that heralds the arrival of the Summer Solstice, and officially, in many parts of the world, also heralds in the summer season. And this day is supposed to have a short night and a longer day.
But as per the Indian scriptures, this is the day which after 6 months of the sun being in the North or Uttarayana moves to the South or it is the beginning of the Dakshinayana period. And accordingly, in many parts of the world the season and weather also changes to summer, monsoons, and winter respectively.
Just after the advent of the Dakshinayana period, when the first full moon is seen is a day celebrated as Guru Poornima, dedicated to one’s Guru or teacher and remembering their teachings.
